I don’t know if it was his watery blue eyes, his sincere kindness, the obvious presence of Jesus amongst us as the lyrics and music took over the crowd, or a combination of these things, but on Saturday night, I officially became a self-proclaimed TobyMac groupie.
My evening began with observing a round of miniature golf with 4 lucky SPIRIT 105.3 winners and TobyMac. We could tell this was not the first time he had played. He was so welcoming and down to earth it was easy to (almost) completely relax around him.
The VIP performance was next and this was probably my favorite part of the evening. With some audience Q & A, we learned that he IS a Seahawks fan! We also learned that his favorite song to perform is “Made to Love.”
In the midst of performing for this somewhat intimate audience, he attempted to face time with his wife. But with five kids at home, he was not surprised that she didn’t answer. I was laughing almost hysterically when he talked about how it doesn’t matter if his wife doesn’t pick up the phone but if she calls he had BETTER answer.
Famous or not, some things are consistent in any household.
The meet & greet was next on the agenda and I had the opportunity to get my picture with him AND ask him one question from a listener. The question? What is your go-to meal before a show. Watch the video here for his answer!
A few minutes after 7pm, the dynamic line-up began. Brandon Heath, Mandisa, Matthew West, Matt Maher and, of course, TobyMac. I wanted to jump on stage with Mandisa and participate in the Zumba moves. I restrained myself. The rest of the evening was filled with good music, but more than that, the evening was really about worship. The show was sold out and it was an amazing feeling to look around and know that all of these people are present for a similar reason. All from different walks of life. Yet, we all came to worship through amazing music. And wow, did we do that well! An amazing and moving evening. I am still on cloud 9 over getting to be a part of it!
Were you there? I’d love to hear your thoughts about the concert and see your pictures!
