I want to share a couple of secrets with you about me. (Oh yes, I’m a real open book alright, just know that right from the get go!)
First secret – Making homemade Bread Dough and Pizza is SUPER EASY!
Second Secret – I’m SUPER PASSIONATE about telling people about the first secret!
I used to always think that there was some sort of secret mystery to making anything that required homemade bread dough. I was so intimidated until the day I had nothing in the house but the most basic of ingredients:
I set out to make my own Homemade Pizza and it has been an all-time favorite ever since that day. We have served this pizza almost weekly for years.
We have had birthday parties where the highlight for the kids was making their own pizzas. I’m also ready at a moment’s notice when I have a houseful of hungry teens.
- 5 Cups Flour (you can use ½ wheat but you must increase the water by about 2 Tbs.)
- 2 Tbs. Yeast
- 2 Tbs. Sugar (brown or white)
- 2 Cups Warm Water (pretty warm but not hot)
- 1 ½ Tsp. Salt
- 2 Tbs. Oil (any kind. I usually use Olive)
Mix together Water, Yeast and Sugar.
Now let sit until foamy on top, about 10 min.
Then add Oil, Salt and Flour and mix well:
Now turn out onto a floured counter top,
Now we are going to Knead the bread! Yes you can!
Simply fold bread toward you then push away with your palm. Turn about 1/3 way then do it over and over. Keep turning, folding and pushing!
Do this for about 5 min. Until the dough no longer sticks to the counter. Sometimes you have to add a little more flour…and sometimes a teeny tiny bit of water. It’s ok, it’s gonna be so gooood!
Now put the dough back into the bowl that you used to mix dough in. Cover with a dish towel and let rise for about an hour!
Look how huge it got!
Now divide dough in half and roll out your pizza dough and top with whatever you like!
This dough recipe can be cut in half for one recipe BUT why not make two and freeze one OR bake and eat for leftovers the next day!
The sky is the limit on the variations you can make with this versatile pizza dough so go for it! Make your fave!! Let the kids help too.
Bake at 425 Degrees for about 12 – 15 min. This will depend on the oven.
These are some of our fave pizza sauces

The moral of the story?
Make dough, create pizza, be happy!
