“Fear twisted Gwyn Hillerman’s stomach just like her fingers twisted the delicate handkerchief into a knot.”
With these words I was transported into the newest novel written by Tracie Peterson and Kimberley Woodhouse entitled All Things Hidden. Isn’t it amazing how our attention and imagination can be activated within the first few words of a book? We just know we’re headed for an adventure and it’s a magical feeling.
I got that same feeling when I walked through the door of His Word Found Here, a new bookstore in Ballard. I was there to meet Tracie and Kimberley and have my book signed. But, I was really curious about this shop I had heard so much about.
His Word Found Here opened its doors in June. It is housed in a beautiful, old brick building and as soon as you walk through the door you know that this is no ordinary shop. Instead of entering a cookie cutter bookstore, you feel like you’ve walked into your best friend’s house, a place where you can get comfortable and stay awhile.
There is a coffee shop in the back of the store that serves the smoothest, tastiest cup of coffee I’ve had in a very long time. Tables and chairs are set up and people are encouraged to sit and visit. You get the feeling that you are not just a coffee order to them, you are family.
There is a cute kids’ corner where young ones can come to hear a story or read a book. It is nestled under the staircase, the perfect little nook for your little ones.
But, what really impressed me was what was upstairs. There is a lovely loft for the sole (soul!) purpose of reading and studying God’s word. There is no stock for sale up there, just a wonderful old library table and chairs sitting at the ready for impromptu or planned Bible studies. There are reference books available to be used by anyone who needs them and there will be a small private room in the near future that will be available for those who need a quieter place to read and study.
His Word Found Here is a ministry, a place for people to gather and be nourished. Peruse the books, visit with fellow shoppers, bring your small group and head upstairs to study God’s word. And, by all means, try the coffee!
Ballard is so very blessed to have His Word Found Here in their neighborhood. Help me get the word out about this special place. I’ll meet you in the loft (I’ll be the one with the large mocha in her hand!).
