It’s not even September and I’ll admit my brain is already having thoughts of Thanksgiving and Christmas. Little things like what new side dish I might want to try this year when hosting turkey day or jotting down little ideas for stocking stuffers knowing that stuff gets challenging as the kids get older.
Even though my head often wanders ahead into the fall season while it’s still summer, I am always surprised each year when I see advertisements for pumpkin spice making its annual return before my kids have started their school year.
It used to not happen until late September but for the past few years, it seems like mid-August hits and boom pumpkin spice seems to be everywhere.
Starbucks has announced the return of Pumpkin Spice will happen on August 26th. Say goodbye to items like summer berry refreshers and hello to pumpkin cold brew, iced pumpkin cream chai and pumpkin pastries.
Despite thinking it’s too early; I absolutely will give in and give it a go. I usually treat myself to a few fall drinks and treats throughout the season. I am one of those people who loves pumpkin spice anything. Drinks, scones, I even have pumpkin spice scented diffusers in my house.
I know it’s not for everyone.
While I love the taste and the smell, I do not love the price tag. Exactly why I typically only treat myself to a few throughout the whole season. But that doesn’t mean I can’t enjoy it regularly.
I usually do a mix of store bought syrup like this zero calorie zero sugar one from Amazon or I make my own creamer.
These options are super affordable and still let you enjoy the taste of the season.
Here is what you need for the pumpkin creamer:
- Heavy Cream – 1 cup. I have used half and half which will work but heavy cream was much more delicious, of course.
- Pumpkin Puree – 3 TBSP. Good ol’ canned pumpkin is what I used and it was great.
- Brown Sugar – 1 TBSP.
- Vanilla Extract – 1 tsp.
- Pumpkin Pie Spice – 1 tsp. It was suggested I use a pumpkin extract but I couldn’t find that at Target or the grocery store so I gave up and used ground pumpkin pie spice.
Here is what you’ll do:
Add all ingredients into a mason jar or something you can mix in. After some trial and error, I now add mine to my nutra bullet blender.
Froth/blend. If using a whisk or hand mixer/foam maker, it will take a few minutes to get it frothy so be patient.
Add whatever amount you desire into any coffee and store the rest in the fridge for up to a few days.
I re-whisked mine when I used it the following day.
Are you ready for pumpkin spice or will you refuse until it actually feels more like fall?
