Mother’s Day is coming and it can be hard to find a meaningful gift for mom or grandma.
As a Mom AND a Nana, I can say that my favorite gifts are the handmade ones. I treasure every crooked letter my kids and grandkids have written to me and every picture they have drawn.
I share with you today an easy craft that is sure to make any mom’s heart melt. Have your kids make one for grandma, or supply your husband with the materials and have him teach the kids how to make one for you! Also remember that your own mom, no matter how old you are, would love to get one from you.
Let’s take simple brown lunch bags and turn them into works of art.
LOVE BOOKS
What you’ll need:
- Paper bags
- Scissors
- Hole punch
- Ribbon or twine
- Old magazines, markers, glue, etc.

Directions:
Take 3-4 lunch bags and stack them. Cut the gusseted (folded) bottoms off. You will be left with basically paper tubes.

Fold each bag in half.

Punch 3 holes in each bag. It is easier to punch them in the bags separately. Do the first one as a pattern and then tuck each bag inside and use the first punched holes as a guide.
Cut three equal lengths of string or ribbon and tie them in bows through the holes.

Now, for the fun part!
You and your kids get to decorate each page. The sky is the limit. Use stickers, glitter, magazine cut-outs, drawings, etc. to make each page special. If your love book is going to be from multiple people you might want to decorate the pages before you bind them together.

The best part of these little books is that each page has a pocket. Slip in secret notes, seed packets, pictures, or whatever else you can think of. I happen to like messy books so I will often put in things that hang over the edges, but you can certainly keep yours hidden for a neater look.

I can’t think of a mom or Grandma who wouldn’t cherish getting a love book for Mother’s Day.

Here are some Bible Verses relating to motherhood to get you started:
“Her mouth is full of wisdom; kindly teaching is on her tongue.” Proverbs 31:26
“The young woman ran and told her mother’s household everything that had happened.” Genesis 24:28
“The man named his wife Eve because she is the mother of everyone who lives.” Genesis 3:20
“Instead, make yourselves beautiful on the inside, in your hearts, with the enduring quality of a gentle, peaceful spirit. This type of beauty is very precious in God’s eyes.” 1 Peter 3:4
And my favorite:
“As a mother comforts her child, so I will comfort you.” Isaiah 66:13
Now, that you know how to make these “bag-books” why not make a prayer journal or a birthday book the same way?
Send us pictures of your “Love Books”. We’d love to see them!
