Let’s be real—transitions are tough.
Whether it’s starting a new job, heading back to school, moving to a new place, dealing with a loss, or just feeling like life is shifting beneath your feet… change can feel really uncomfortable. It’s that weird “in between” space where you’re not where you used to be, but you’re not quite where you’re going either.
If you’re in a season like that, let’s take a look at one of our favorite people in the Bible: Ruth. Her story is a beautiful example of what it looks like to stay faithful, even when life feels uncertain and unfamiliar.
Let’s walk through her story together and pull out a few lessons that might encourage you in your own season of transition.
1. Sometimes Faithfulness Means Letting Go
“Don’t urge me to leave you or to turn back from you. Where you go I will go, and where you stay I will stay…” – Ruth 1:16
Ruth made a choice that couldn’t have been easy—she left behind everything she knew: her family, her culture, her comfort zone. She followed her mother-in-law Naomi to a new land with no guarantee of what was ahead.
Let’s be honest—letting go is hard. It might mean stepping away from a relationship, a dream, or just the way things “used to be.” But sometimes, God asks us to release what’s familiar so He can lead us into something far better. Scary? Yep. But also sacred.
2. Stay Loyal, Even When It’s Hard
Ruth didn’t just stick by Naomi out of obligation—she stayed out of love, and out of a growing faith in God. She showed up, cared for her family, and worked hard—even though her own heart was probably grieving and tired.
I think sometimes we underestimate how much simple, everyday faithfulness matters. Being loyal to the people God has placed in your life. Showing up for that quiet time even when you’re distracted. Choosing to trust God again, even after disappointment.
In the chaos of transition, loyalty—both to God and to others—is a quiet kind of strength.
3. God Moves in the Small Things
Ruth wasn’t looking for a love story. She was just trying to gather enough food for herself and Naomi. She went to the fields, picked up leftover grain, and did the next right thing.
But behind the scenes? God was weaving her obedience into something way bigger than she could imagine.
Here’s the reminder for us: just because it feels ordinary doesn’t mean it’s not holy. You never know how God might use your small, faithful steps—especially during seasons of change.
4. There’s Redemption on the Other Side
Spoiler alert: Ruth’s story doesn’t end in struggle. God provides. Ruth meets Boaz, they get married, and she becomes the great-grandmother of King David—and part of the family line of Jesus.
What started with grief and uncertainty ended in redemption and legacy.
So if your current season feels like a mess, remember: God isn’t done. He specializes in taking broken things and turning them into beautiful stories.
If you’re in a season of change… Here’s your encouragement: don’t rush through it. Don’t assume God has gone quiet just because things feel weird. Like Ruth, keep showing up. Keep trusting. Keep being faithful in the little things. You don’t have to have it all figured out—just keep walking with the One who does.
You are not alone in the transition. And your Redeemer? He’s already writing the next chapter.
A few questions to think about:
- What change are you walking through right now?
- Is there anything God might be asking you to let go of?
- What does faithfulness look like for you today?
If this encouraged you, consider sharing it with a friend who’s also in a season of transition. We’re all walking this journey of faith together—one step at a time.
