Have you thought about your vision for the new year? What is your vision for your family, marriage, spouse, children, health, work, business, church, ministry and relationships? It is not too late if you have not.
Write the vision; make it plain on tablets, so he may run who reads it. Habakkuk.2:2
Do you have a desire? You may not even have children yet, but desire to. What would you like them to be and do? Write it down. Have you always dreamed of starting a business? Write it down. Maybe you have always wanted to write a book, start a ministry for children or have family Bible reading time every evening. Write down that vision. No matter how big or small it seems. Write it down in a book that you can refer to.
Then after you get it all down, present it to the Lord. Pray over it. Ask God if it aligns with His Word the Bible and with His will for you. Then course correct as He leads if it contradicts scripture because God has exalted His Word even above Himself.
For thou hast magnified thy word above all thy name. Psalm 138:2
No jot of His Word will fail.
I tell you the truth, until heaven and earth disappear, not even the smallest detail of God’s law will disappear until its purpose is achieved. Matthew.5:18
Next, map out the practical steps you can actually take to achieve this vision because the truth is, just as there is a part God has to play in the fulfillment of your vision, there is a part you have to play as well.
God provides the seed but we have to go and actually plant the seed. God gives the increase then we have to go out and harvest the yield.
He will bless the works of our hands so let us have works ready for Him to bless.
The LORD will open to you his good treasury, the heavens, to give the rain to your land in its season and to bless all the work of your hands. And you shall lend to many nations, but you shall not borrow. Deuteronomy 28:12
On of my visions for 2026 is to read through the whole Bible. I know this is in line with God’s will because He commands us to store up His Word in our hearts, to meditate on His Word day and night and for it to be on our lips continuously.
I have hidden Your word in my heart that I might not sin against You. Psalm.119:11
This Book of the Law must not depart from your mouth; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. For then you will prosper and succeed in all you do. Joshua.1:8
It all begins with first of all reading the Word so it can be in my mind for me to think and meditate on it and so it can be on my lips for me to speak it.
What practical steps did I take to achieve this? First of all, I asked God for wisdom on how to do this effectively. I have tried to read through the Bible before and even went more than half way through it, but lost zeal and did not complete my goal.
I prayed and thought on it, allowing God to lead me. A witness in my spirit led me to search through a number of “Bible through the year” reading plans until I found one that was Biblically sound, pretty to look at and with tasks and targets on how to live the verses out as you read them. This is so me. It sounded like something I would enjoy and be motivated to accomplish.
Next, I got an accountability partner. A sister in Christ whose company I enjoy and who sharpens me like iron sharpens iron by the way she lives her life and also speaks life into me. We live miles apart, but distance is not a hinderance thanks to phones and video calls.
As iron sharpens iron, So one person sharpens [and influences] another [through discussion]. Proverbs 27:17
Setting a target that would not lead to failure by being strenuous for us seeing as we are both mothers to young children, we decided to meet virtually once a week.
We used our time to talk about what stood out most for us during our study of the Bible, share what God is teaching us through His word, as well as any dreams, goals, burdens or challenges we can pray with each other on.
Yes, were doing the same Bible plan and I’m grateful to have someone to spur me on as I spur her on as well. It is important to have friends like Daniel did.
I know that having Jesus following, Bible believing friends to pray and fast with and encourage each other on this journey as believers helped those young Hebrew boys to remain in God and not compromise even though they were surrounded by evil and pressures to sin against God (sound familiar?)
Then Daniel returned to his house and explained the matter to his friends Hananiah, Mishael and Azariah. He urged them to plead for mercy from the God of heaven concerning this mystery, so that he and his friends might not be executed with the rest of the wise men of Babylon. During the night the mystery was revealed to Daniel in a vision. Then Daniel praised the God of heaven and said: “Praise be to the Name of God for ever and ever; wisdom and power are His. Daniel 2.17-20
