Lord, help me to speak kindly to my children. Please help me to be kind, loving, warm and fun. In Jesus Name, Amen.
I just prayed that for the millionth time this week. And how many times do we Moms pray such a prayer, after being wrecked by Mom guilt. (Side note, does Dad guilt exist? Will have to look into that.)
The Psalmist in Psalm 113:9 declares that God will make you a joyful mother over your children.
Something just hit me about that verse this week. God is speaking to the mother. Because in His divine wisdom He knows how we tend to beat ourselves up and are harsh in our thoughts towards ourselves. Always falling short and never quite doing good enough, in our own opinions.
The Holy Spirit revealed to me that there is a specific way the enemy attacks mothers, through tormenting guilt that is a stealer of joy and eventually even robs us of life. Notice how the guilt will snowball if we dwell on it even just a little, until it builds up into depression and robs of the family of the wonderful gift of a joyful, present mother. Not today Satan. Not any day, actually.
As I was wallowing through another bout of Mom guilt, the Holy Spirit snapped me out of it by bringing this verse into remembrance, Psalm 113.9. I was l also reminded of Romans 8:1, Therefore there is now no condemnation [no guilty verdict, no punishment] for those who are in Christ Jesus [who believe in Him as personal Lord and Savior]. For the law of the Spirit of life [which is] in Christ Jesus [the law of our new being] has set you free from the law of sin and of death.
That is why, dear Moms, it is such a gift to store up God’s Word in our minds and hearts. Some versions actually say treasure, because it is a treasure that the Holy Spirit taps into and brings us back into our remembrance just when we need that injection of life and hope back in to us.
Your word I have treasured and stored in my heart. Psalm 119:11
In such a characteristically timely manner, that Wonderful Counsellor, the Holy Spirit, brought these verses back into my mind and said; pray these instead in faith. Speak God’s Word in prayer. See yourself as God sees you. So I prayed instead; Thank You Father that you have made me a joyful mother over all my children, as Your word declares in Psalm 113:9, I will rejoice in them and over them, I’m so grateful for the privilege of parenting them, being their Mom, loving and nurturing them. Please strengthen me in this beautiful role, forgive my shortcomings and help me to do just as You designed. Thank You that a there is no condemnation for me as a Mom and as a person because I am in Christ Jesus. I know You will help me because You say so in Your word.
Don’t be afraid, for I am with you. Don’t be discouraged, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you. I will hold you up with my victorious right hand. Isaiah 41:10
Dear Mom, as you read this, remember the truth of God’s Word. There is therefore NO condemnation for them that are in Christ Jesus. Not a little condemnation, not some condemnation, but NONE. God called you to this ministry of raising Godly seed because as He said in Psalm 127:3 that children are a gift from Him alone, and His reward. So He sees you as capable and worthy. And He empowers you daily to excel. His mercies are new every single morning and His faithfulness to us is great, not small.
May you receive the joy that God has set apart and intended especially and specifically for Moms. You WILL be a joyful mother over all your children. God had said it, the creator of all things declares it. And so we believe it and receive it. Amen.
