It’s Tuesday morning September 3 and I am up early getting myself ready for work. I am checking my to-do list for the day, looking over email, and at my phone calendar. I see the date and for some reason September 3 keeps sticking in my head. Hmm…that date? Sounds familiar? You see this year I have 2 kids at two different high schools and varying schedules. There has been a lot of organizing. Thankfully they were both starting school on September 4th, but that date September 3 keeps nagging in my mind….I’ve seen that on something, haven’t I?
This time of year can make you a bit crazy. With all the to-dos on your list as you get everyone prepared and ready it can leave you feeling a bit overwhelmed. This year I honestly felt pretty organized with all my to-do’s marked off. I had ordered groceries, got backpacks, school supplies, bought lunches, paid all the fees! I was started to think I finally have this mom thing down.
Here I am pondering what a great mom I am, but I can’t figure out why September 3rd keeps sticking in my head. Just for fun I decide to check the school calendar again. Can you guess?
My son actually was supposed to start school September 3 not September 4! What?? My son’s schools starts TODAY!? I check the clock…now it’s 7 and his school is about a 40 minute drive in traffic and starts at 8. Now the fun part of having to tell my teenager the dreaded news and that we need to leave in 10 minutes. Ha!
We got ourselves together, printed the schedule, threw together the backpack, grabbed a quick snack and got there with 6 miraculous minutes to spare.
At first, I saw it as a fail, but you know the truth, mom? None of us have it all together. We should stop pretending we do. Life looks messy and we make mistakes. It’s just how we look at it that matters. This was not a fail, but a test of my ability to act quickly under pressure and make it happen!
Enjoy this back to school time! You’ve got this, and remember you really are a hero! Soak it in.
