When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; And through the rivers, they will not overflow you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be scorched, Nor will the flame burn you. –Isaiah 43:2
August is the perfect time of year for a fun, beach-themed craft! And who doesn’t love an adorable little octopus? I saw this online last summer and knew my kids would love it. With googly eyes and sweet hand-print cutouts, it’s a cute and easy way to celebrate the end of the summer season.
Here’s what you’ll need:

Maria Magee
- Assorted colors of cardstock paper (construction paper will work but it’s just not as sturdy)
- Glue
- Scissors
- Markers
- Googly eyes (or draw your own)
Getting Started:
Either free-hand or tracing a small bowl, make your octopus head. Next, trace your kid’s hands, leaving out the thumb. Cut them all out and arrange them.

Next, glue the legs behind the head so that the pinky fingers are on the outside.

Draw (or have your kids draw) the mouth, little dots on the head, cheeks, and little tentacles.

Place the googly eyes.

For extra detail, you can glue your octopus onto another sheet of paper so your kids can decorate an under-the-sea scene for the octopus. Or, use beach-themed stickers if you have them!
Enjoy these last weeks of summer as you savor the sunny days, beach time, and picnics. Hopefully these little googly-eyed guys brighten up your day and make craft time a splash for your kids!
