Sports play a bigger part in our children’s lives now than at any other time in history. Kids enroll in more sports, have more frequent practices, and play competitively earlier than ever before. And while participation in sports has research-backed physical, mental, and academic benefits, this increased demand on their developing physiques puts our kids at great risk for injury.
This post is sponsored by the National Athletic Trainers’ Association.
These injuries don’t just occur in the heat of competition. Nearly two-thirds of sports injuries occur during practices. To exacerbate the problem, over half of all athletes admit to playing while injured and a quarter of the adults (parents and coaches) charged with protecting these kids don’t do anything to prevent injuries.
Our kids deserve better – both for the sake of their short-term safety and the benefit of their long-term health and performance.
On Wednesday, October 16th the National Athletic Trainers’ Association in conjunction with the YMCA Dallas are hosting a FREE webinar on Facebook Live at 2:00pm Central Time to answer common questions related to sports safety and early specialization. Viewers will learn practical tips on how to keep their child healthy and safe and in the game – whether your child has been an all-star for years or you just enrolled them in their first season.
