College applications can be daunting and the academic pressure can feel intense. Grades matters, but it’s important to recognize that colleges look at other things when making admissions decisions. If you’re looking for ways to to boost your college application, here are eleven non-academic activities to consider.
- Get a job.
- Volunteer or do community service.
- Get an internship.
- Travel.
- Plan and execute a project.
- Engage in creative endeavors.
- Start a business.
- Learn a skill.
- Work toward (and achieve) a lofty goal.
- Seek out leadership opportunities.
- Attend a college-based camp or program.
Anything you can do to demonstrate responsibility, determination, problem-solving, resilience, leadership, passion, or social awareness will help the admissions committee see a side of you outside of your GPA and coursework. You’re more than your studies, so make sure your application reflects that.
